Expanding the Circle 2017-11-03T13:33:28+00:00

The Center for Urban Teaching is committed to supporting teachers and leaders in creating environments grounded in unconditional love, while setting and maintaining high behavioral and academic expectations. A critical lever in establishing powerful practices for classroom success is intentional training and development with others in the field. Expanding the Circle provides an opportunity for teachers from around the city to come together for collaboration, training, perfect practice, and support in gaining the tools necessary to create positive classroom culture and climate, characterized by high academic expectations. Expanding the Circle is divided into four tracks designed to support teachers in their first two to three years in the classroom as they develop from developing teachers to emerging leaders:

Starting Point: Year one of the Expanding the Circle series is an entry-level teacher training series designed for teachers and support staff who desire to gain the tools needed to improve classroom culture and instruction, while dramatically improving classroom environment and student performance.

Next Steps: Year two of the Expanding the Circle series encourages teachers to move from good to great through powerful instructional strategies and systems of accountability, with a clear focus on best practices for academic improvement.

Building Momentum: Year three of the Expanding the Circle series explores new and innovative methods to continue building excellent academic instruction and classroom culture, with an intentional focus on key strategies for driving Writing and Reading instruction.

Take the Lead: Year four of the Expanding the Circle series focuses on preparing master teachers for leadership roles within their schools through training and practice in instructional coaching and mentoring methodologies, designing and delivering professional development, analyzing classroom and school data for driving school wide improvement, delivering effective teacher feedback, leading teams, and more.
